The UK Press Card Authority is a voluntary scheme for issuing
press/media identification to professional newsgathers in the
UK.
Press Cards are nationally recognised and accepted by the
police. They identify the bearer as a working
journalist.
The scheme comprises 17 `
gatekeepers': national
organisations which represent journalists and other media personnel
(employed or freelance), whose work involves gathering material for
editorial publication in all media - print, broadcast and
electronic.
Journalists, photographers and freelance newsgatherers working for
the regional or local press can apply for a press card
through the Newspaper Society.
