The NS legal advisors offer in-house training to member publishers on all aspects of the law affecting journalism
 
The NS also handles press facilities for regional newspapers, including Royal Rota passes, Prime Ministerial visits, major sporting events and high profile court cases.

It also acts as a gatekeeper for the UK press card scheme.

The communications department runs the secretariat for the Newspaper Conference, the forum for London editors and political correspondents of regional daily newspapers in NS membership, organising its quarterly and annual lunches with Cabinet ministers and other high-profile figures.
